Black Tee Distance 6035m: Par 72 rated 72 Slope 127

White Tee Distance 5836m: Par 72 rated 70 Slope 121

Ladies Tee Distance 5480m: Par 73 rated 74 Slope 130

OVERALL:

When competing in Armidale, players should take into account the city’s elevation—nearly 1,000 metres above sea level—making it the highest city in Australia. The altitude can significantly affect ball flight, particularly in clear conditions, with shots typically travelling farther than at sea level. As a result, I have found it necessary to select one or two clubs less than I would on a comparable coastal course.

HOLE 1 PAR 4

Men's Tee: 337 metres

Ladies' Tee: 338 metres

Aim down the left side off the tee to account for the fairway’s left-to-right slope. From there, leave yourself a full approach shot into the green. The green pitches from front to back and can be difficult to hold, so favour a shot that lands short rather than long. Missing beyond the green leaves a challenging chip.

HOLE 2 PAR 4

Men's Tee: 391 metres

Ladies' Tee: 324 metres

Aim down the right side off the tee to allow for a right-to-left bounce. Club selection is crucial on your second shot, as you’ll need to account for the drop in elevation to the green. Favor a miss short rather than long, as anything beyond the green leaves a more difficult chip.

HOLE 3 PAR 4

Men's Tee: 357 metres

Ladies' Tee: 347 metres

A gentle left-to-right shape off the tee will help you navigate the dogleg. Longer hitters can take a more aggressive line, setting up the chance of a short chip onto the green. Otherwise, favour a tee shot down the left side without going too far and risking being blocked out by the pine trees. The approach must be precise, as trouble surrounds the elevated, two-tiered green

HOLE 4 PAR 3

Men's Tee: 149 metres

Ladies' Tee: 133 metres

The first of the course’s two infamous short par 3s measures just 149 metres from the back tee, but don’t be fooled—it packs a punch. If you miss the green, short and in front is the safest place to be. Wayward shots, particularly those long of the green, will be punished—sometimes severely.

HOLE 5 PAR 5

Men's Tee: 487 metres

Ladies' Tee: 449 metres

The longest par 5 on the course, yet reachable in two for longer hitters. Take care off the tee, with a small pond lurking on the left. Your second shot demands a clear decision: lay up, or attempt to carry the small creek that crosses the fairway around 65 metres short of the green. The entire left side is protected by an out-of-bounds fence.

HOLE 6 PAR 4

Men's Tee: 323 metres

Ladies' Tee: 321 metres

A cracking short dogleg par 4 that tempts long hitters to take it on. The key is finding the middle to left side of the fairway from the tee, as anything too far right risks being blocked out from the green. Putts from the back of the green can become extremely quick, especially after it has been rolled.

HOLE 7 PAR 3

Men's Tee: 171 metres

Ladies' Tee: 119 metres

Club selection is crucial on this 171-metre par 3. The green falls away sharply at the front, and anything struck short can roll back down the slope toward the dam, which is hidden from the tee. Long is no safer, as the back of the green slopes away on a challenging two-tiered surface.

HOLE 8 PAR 4 MENS • PAR 5 LADIES

Men's Tee: 415 metres

Ladies' Tee: 409 metres

A strong test, this downhill slight dogleg par 4 rewards accuracy off the tee. The key is to find the fairway and open up a clear view of the green. With one of the gentlest slopes on the course, it offers a good opportunity to hole a putt and keep your round on track.

HOLE 9 PAR 5

Men's Tee: 423 metres

Ladies' Tee: 349 metres

Famous for its slope that runs the full length of the hole, steepening as you approach the green, this hole isn’t long but presents a challenging, often blind shot to the green, making club selection crucial. The two-tiered green demands care, as downhill putts can be very slippery.

HOLE 10 PAR 4

Men's Tee: 350 metres

Ladies' Tee: 330 metres

Running parallel to the first hole, the tenth features a left-to-right slope that rewards tee shots played down the left side. Longer hitters can take a more aggressive line, leaving a short pitch to the green if executed correctly. A straightforward approach follows a good tee shot, but be cautious—missing long can be costly.

HOLE 11 PAR 3

Men's Tee: 167 metres

Ladies' Tee: 150 metres

A straight, downhill par 3 with bunkers guarding the front of the green on both sides. Missing long left leaves a tough chip, making par difficult to save.

HOLE 12 PAR 3

Men's Tee: 183 metres

Ladies' Tee: 175 metres

The longest par 3 on the course, where hitting the green off the tee is an achievement in itself. Missing right can be severely punished, while a miss to the left often ends up better than expected.

HOLE 13 PAR 5

423 metres Black and 386 White Mens Tee

349 metres Ladies Tee

Famous for the slope that runs all the way along, getting steeper as you get closer to the green. It’s not long, but the shot up to the green is challenging and normally blind, which makes club selection crucial. The green is two-tiered, and downhill putts can be slippery.

HOLE 14 PAR 3

146 metres Black and 133 White Mens Tee

115 metres Ladies Tee

The second of our difficult little par-3s, this hole has everything. A well placed dam and bunker, plus a drop off on the right, have been known to bring many a good stroke round unstuck. The solution’s simple, though – just hit the green from the tee!
